The auto-mocking in Jest is quite good, but it's a hell of a lot slower than running vanilla Jasmine. 

I'd gotten quite used to having Grunt run a Jasmine suite on every save, which would give me the green/red in about half a second, but with Jest it's at least 8 seconds for a suite.

Jest is a good idea, but it's got a long way to go still. As you note, it takes a lot of time to get going. Coverage support is also spotty at best.
