Target audience – students.
They might not be aware of .editorconfig, so why not?

I have seen it several time in Twitter recently: a lot of people think that most guides are not friendly enough for low-experience ones (e.g. students)

I don't get your point. There are a lot of folks who are unaware of EditorConfig. Also, it is always a good idea to introduce your readers to some tools they might not know about. If they do, well, then they can just skip the paragraph and move on.
